A Pennsylvania man was arrested last week for trying to steal $100,000 from a local victim’s bank account.
The investigation began on October 24, 2024, when the victim phoned the Davie County Sheriff’s Office, stating that they had checked their company account at Skyline National Bank in Mocksville and discovered that $100,000 had been stolen, according to Sheriff J.D. Hartman.
Investigators went to the bank and obtained video surveillance of the incident. The bank delayed payment on an $83,837.36 check issued to the suspect, but the suspect also received $18,500 cash.
Dante J. Cardelli, 55, of Pennsylvania, provided the victim with a phony identification card that had all of her personal information. However, the photo ID revealed the suspect’s photograph, according to Hartman.
Cardelli was charged with felony obtaining property under false pretenses, identity theft, and possessing or making a phony ID. The warrant was served on Cardelli on August 21, when he was being held in Watauga County for similar charges. He was given a $25,000 bond locally.
