Following an attempted arson incident in Downtown Silver Spring, the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) responded quickly and coordinatedly, apprehending a juvenile suspect. Commander Jason Cokinos announced the arrest on social media at 10:53 p.m. on the night of the event.
The situation occurred around 6 p.m., when 3rd District officers were summoned to the 800 block of Thayer Avenue. A call was received regarding a person attempting to set fire to a food truck.
MCPD used their Drone as First Responder (DFR) unit, “Raven 3.” The drone came promptly on the scene, giving aerial help and locating the young suspect. As officers approached, the suspect attempted to leave on foot but was apprehended after a brief pursuit. When cops arrested the guy, they discovered a weapon in his backpack.
