An Oregon man who cyberstalked and attempted to physically confront a former US government official in Arizona has been sentenced to 3.25 years in prison, authorities said Monday.
Brian Thomas Balda, 52, was sentenced to 39 months in prison by a judge last Thursday, according to the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona.
On June 13, he was found guilty of one count of cyberstalking and one count of interstate stalking for harassing an official from 2023 to 2024.

Balda was sentenced for launching an eight-month intimidation campaign against the victim, during which time he sent nasty, profane voicemails and text messages.
His actions worsened, and he drove from Oregon to Arizona to confront the victim, prosecutors said.
However, police caught Balda near the victim’s home before he could engage in a physical altercation.
When Balda was arrested, authorities discovered four knives, binoculars, and an imitation firearm in his car.
