Fugitive Career Criminal Arrested In Polk City

A 66-year-old Polk City man with a significant criminal history, including ten stays in state prison, was arrested early Wednesday morning after deputies from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) acted on a tip.

Dallas Russell Long, a registered career offender, was wanted on three active warrants, deputies said.

According to a PCSO report, deputies received information that Long was on 1st Street in Polk City. They arrived and saw him seated in a carport. When approached, Long allegedly lied to deputies about his identification to avoid arrest. However, the deputies were not misled.

Long tightened up and tried to pull away, rejecting deputies’ efforts to detain him. Despite his protests, he was successfully apprehended and sent to the Sheriff’s Processing Center.

Long was wanted on three warrants: failing to register as a career offender, tampering with an electronic control device, and violating pre-trial release. Following his arrest, he was also charged with resisting arrest without violence and giving a false name to a law enforcement officer.

Long’s criminal record spans decades and includes offenses such as Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer, Resisting Officer with Violence, Fleeing to Elude, Aggravated Assault, Intimidating a Witness, DUI, Leaving the Scene of a Crash with Injury, and Indecent Exposure.

Deputies said he had spent 43 years in state jail on ten separate crimes.
