A Hopkinsville man was charged Thursday morning with beating, choking, and punching a woman with a belt on West 2nd Street in Hopkinsville.
Hopkinsville Police said they received a call to respond to a home on West 2nd Street and found 30-year-old Elijah Boodoosingh, who told them everything was fine, but they saw a woman inside and requested her to step outside.
Police say she claimed Boodoosingh grabbed her phone, struck her with a belt numerous times, choked her ten or more times until she passed out, then smacked her in the face.
Boodoosingh raced into the house, closed the door on law officers, and fled before being tased and arrested. He is accused of fourth-degree assault, intimidating a participant in the judicial process, first-degree strangulation, first-degree running or escaping police, refusing arrest, and second-degree unlawful confinement.
