On Thursday, November 6, 2025, at about 4:13 a.m., Washington County Sheriff’s deputies serving the city of Cornelius responded to reports of an explosive device being thrown at a door in the 300 block of North 10th Avenue. The caller observed numerous bullet holes in the door, but fortunately, no one suffered any injuries.
Deputies sought assistance from the Washington County Community Violence Reduction Team (CoVRT) and Metro Explosives Disposal Unit. Investigators decided that the event was a targeted attack and that the victim knew the culprit. Because there were worries that the suspect might have weapons or other explosive devices, tactical and negotiation units were dispatched, including the Tactical Negotiations Team (TNT), Crisis Negotiations Unit (CNU), Remotely Operated Vehicle Team (ROVT), and Incident Management Team (IMT).
Later that evening, authorities secured a search warrant for a residence near the 13000 block of SW Cottontail Lane in Beaverton, where the suspect, 37-year-old Samuel Lund, lived. Deputies spotted Lund leaving his residence on a bicycle toward SW Scholls Ferry Road around 10:30 p.m., before carrying out the warrant. He was apprehended and brought into custody without incident. A later search of his residence found additional explosive devices.
Lund was brought into the Washington County Jail and charged by the District Attorney’s Office with several offenses, including:
- Four counts of Attempted Murder in the First Degree
- One count of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree
- Arson in the First Degree
- Four counts of Unlawful Use of a Weapon
- Felon in Possession of a Firearm
- Unlawful Manufacture of a Destructive Device
- Unlawful Possession of a Destructive Device
