Cook County Crime Stoppers is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the identification of the crew that killed a 26-year-old man during a violent auto theft encounter in Bridgeport last year.
Aric White Jr. died after gunmen opened fire on him and his girlfriend while the couple searched for his stolen SUV at 3 a.m. on May 6, 2024, according to the organization. White’s SUV had been taken minutes earlier, causing him and his girlfriend to use her car to search for it.
As they drove through the neighborhood, Crime Stoppers reported seeing a caravan of suspected vehicle thieves in a red Jeep, a black Dodge Challenger, and a light-colored Chevy SUV. Someone in that group opened fire, hitting White and his girlfriend. She was struck in the arm and survived. White was shot in the head while driving and collided into a home in the 3100 block of South May Street.
He died in Stroger Hospital.
Investigators believe the offenders fled to the Dan Ryan Expressway and then drove to south suburban Glenwood, where officers discovered White’s charred body.
Crime Stoppers claims that their system ensures anonymity. The group claims that tipsters are not asked for their names, their phone conversations are not traced, and their information is kept confidential. A $10,000 cash reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest in White’s murder. The group can be reached at 1-800-535-STOP.
