Two sisters were arrested for grand theft at a Central Florida Target.
Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the Target at 5000 Grandview Parkway in Davenport in response to a retail theft report.
Upon arrival, deputies spoke with a Target loss prevention associate, who stated that he observed two female suspects enter the store at 7:29pm. Surveillance footage captured both women retrieving shopping carts and making quick selections throughout the store, including beds, decorations, apparel, and makeup.
The associate said that the suspects tried to conceal the stuff by placing Target shopping bags over the items in their carts before leaving. They were detained in the loss prevention office until the deputies came.
The total value of the stolen merchandise was $2,487.70.
According to law enforcement, the suspects, sisters Afnane Kamel (19) and Hala Kamel (32), impulsively offered to pay for the things in order to escape legal consequences. Both eventually acknowledged agreeing to take the merchandise while inside the store, according to the PCSO.
Afnane and Hala were apprehended and charged with grand theft and conspiracy to commit grand theft. They were brought to the Sheriff’s Processing Center safely.
“When you walk into a store and try to leave with nearly $2,500 worth of unpaid merchandise, that’s not a mistake—that’s a crime,” said Sheriff Grady Judd. “Thanks to a vigilant associate who saw something and said something, our deputies were able to respond quickly and make the arrest.”
