Four men were detained Saturday evening in the Florida Keys following a traffic check on US 1 that resulted in the finding of two firearms, one reported stolen, and illegal substances. The incident occurred around Mile Marker 103, when the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office stopped a Nissan sedan around 7:15 p.m.

Demerion Altwon Fields, 21, of Greenacres, Florida, was charged with several offenses, including driving without a valid driver’s license, grand theft of a firearm, possession of a firearm or ammunition while under a risk protection order, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. According to authorities, Fields is forbidden from carrying firearms due to a previous exceptional risk protection order issued against him.

Also apprehended were Isaiah Dimitris McCrary, 20, of West Palm Beach, Florida; Jimmy Cliff Leger, 21, of Palm Springs, Florida; and Todd Bradley Presendieu, 20, of Lake Worth.

McCrary is charged with grand theft of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a Florida criminal, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He has previously been convicted of robbery with a dangerous weapon in Palm Beach County.

Leger and Presendieu were both charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

The Sheriff’s Office initiated the traffic stop due to a strong marijuana odor emanating from the vehicle. A subsequent search revealed noteworthy finds, including:

  • Two loaded 9mm handguns, one of which was reported stolen from a vehicle parked at a Florida Panthers hockey game, as confirmed by the Sunrise Police Department.
  • Two loaded extended magazines.
  • Approximately 22.5 grams of marijuana.

All four individuals were arrested and put in jail. The investigation is underway.
