2 Fatalities In Phoenix Gang-related Clash Lead To Multiple Apprehensions As Suspect Is Extradited On Murder Charges

In a terrible climax of what looks to be gang-related violence, the Phoenix Police Department is investigating a fatal incident involving competing motorcycle clubs. The confrontation, which occurred on November 28 near a freeway ramp in downtown Phoenix, resulted in two fatalities and several arrests.

Michael Shane Zavala, 50, was extradited to Arizona from South Carolina and placed into jail on murder and robbery charges yesterday, January 1, according to FOX 10 Phoenix. According to authorities, the conflict between the Vagos and Rock Machine motorcycle clubs intensified during a traffic stop, resulting in gunshots and a vehicular assault that killed two people: Job Martinez, 53, and Scott Kikes, 36. According to azfamily.com, Martinez, the president of the Vagos’ Phoenix chapter, was involved in a violent struggle before being run over by a vehicle driven by Zavala. Reports indicate that Kikes, a member of the “Rock Machine” biker gang, succumbed to bullet wounds sustained during the confrontation.

Surveillance of a suspected gang feud has revealed a deeper backdrop to the violence, demonstrating the complexities of gang dynamics. The Rock Machine members were presumably on their way to a sports bar when they came across Martinez and another unidentified motorcyclist, leading them to reverse direction and chase. According to court filings, a physical battle ensued, with Kikes forcibly removing a portion of Martinez’s vest. Shortly after, Martinez fired his weapon, killing Kikes. A bystander captured the chaotic scene in a viral TikTok video, which the inquiry later utilized as digital evidence.

Last month, law enforcement agents arrested Nicholas Sheehan, 37, and seized gang-related items from his home. In a statement acquired by azfamily.com, Sheehan admitted to having a plan to confront the Vagos. Court documents link Sheehan to the events of that night, and he is charged with first-degree murder and aggravated robbery. He is being jailed under a $1 million bond.
