Two 18-year-old men are facing multiple charges after allegedly stealing items from several unlocked vehicles in Shaler Township early Sunday morning.
According to court documents, officers from the Shaler Township Police Department were called to the 200 block of Rosebriar Drive after a resident reported stolen items from a parked vehicle. When officers arrived, they discovered two people hiding behind a parked pickup truck on Rose Drive.
The suspects were recognized by police as Samuel Ruano and Jacob Klugh. When found, the two attempted to flee, according to officers. Klugh was apprehended at the site, while Ruano allegedly fled on an electric scooter. According to court documents, Ruano rode along the street before returning to authorities, who arrested him.
According to investigators, people in the region were notified of suspicious behavior near their vehicles via Ring camera notifications. Both suspects told officers that they decided to see how many unlocked vehicles were in the vicinity, admitting to removing several items from inside them.
The two males are facing multiple accusations, including theft and criminal trespassing. They were sent to the Allegheny County Jail to await their arraignment.
Police are encouraging residents to lock their cars and remove any valuables. In a social media post, the agency advised the public to report any suspicious activity by dialing 911.
