Freeze Alert for Louisiana, Texas, and Arkansas: Temperatures Fall Into the 20s Through Thursday

Residents in the ArkLaTex should expect another cold night tonight as sub-freezing temperatures return to the region, with lows ranging from the mid-20s to around 30 degrees.

According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, cold weather will persist tonight throughout northwest Louisiana, northeast Texas, and southern Arkansas. Forecast lows are predicted to range from the mid-20s in northern locations to near 30 degrees further south, posing risks to exposed pipes, pets, plants, and early morning travel.

Today’s daytime temperatures struggled to increase substantially, with highs ranging from the mid-40s to the low-50s across much of the region. Cities such as Shreveport, Texarkana, El Dorado, and Monroe stayed significantly below seasonal averages as cold air continued to dominate.

Weather officials believe some relief is on the way. Temperatures are predicted to gradually rise beginning Thursday, with highs reaching the upper 40s and 50s, particularly in southern ArkLaTex. However, colder air will persist for longer in northern locations, making mornings chilly.

Residents are encouraged to take cold-weather precautions such as covering exterior plumbing, keeping pets indoors, and monitoring vulnerable neighbors. Drivers should also use caution in the early morning hours, since bridges and overpasses may become slick in cooler pockets.

While no winter precipitation is forecast, officials warn that continuing cold overnight conditions may pose concerns, especially for those without proper heating.
