A high-confidence arctic outbreak is more expected to spread over the Northeast, with an estimated 80% likelihood of dangerously cold temperatures hitting the region late this week or early next week. The cold air is predicted to bring some of the toughest winter conditions yet, increasing concerns about travel, public safety, and infrastructure in several states.
According to the National Weather Service, a strong arctic air mass is forecast to sweep throughout New England and the Northeast corridor, affecting Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, and northern Pennsylvania. The coldest weather is predicted from Saturday to Tuesday, with daytime highs in the teens and single digits and overnight lows far below freezing, particularly in the interior and northern parts.
