A founding pastor of an Arlington-based non-denominational church is behind bars on a second-degree felony charge of Indecency with a Child—Sexual Contact, an incident that happened nearly two decades ago.
On Tuesday, January 27, 2026, Irving Police apprehended Troyce Hernandez, 50, of Kennedale, also known as “Troy Hernandez.” Hernandez was booked into the Irving Jail and transferred to the Dallas County Jail on Thursday morning.
The Charges and Legal Standing
According to court records, Judge Isabel Cruz placed Hernandez’s felony bond at $25,000 (Warrant #F2632842). He posted bond and was released pending a court hearing. The Dallas County District Attorney’s Office is reviewing the case and cannot speak further.
The Irving Police Department confirmed that the investigation into Hernandez is based on an incident that occurred in 2008. While detectives do not believe there are any other victims, they noted that the investigation is ongoing.
Texas Penal Code Section 21.11 defines indecency with a child as a second-degree felony charge that involves sexual contact with a kid under the age of 17. Due to the sensitivity of the case and the legal requirement to preserve the victim’s identity, authorities have declined to reveal detailed details about the 2008 incident.
Community and Church Reaction
Hernandez is well-known among the local religious community. He and his wife started True Grace Church in 2014. Over the last decade, the church has operated from many locations, including Grand Prairie, before settling in Arlington.
The arrest has sent shockwaves across the congregation, especially since the church has an active “Kid’s Ministry.” The announcement provoked a heated reaction online.
- Concerned Parents: Many have taken to social media to express fear and demand transparency regarding the safety of children within the ministry.
- Church Supporters: Conversely, some congregants have defended Hernandez, describing him as a “good man” and a dedicated spiritual leader.
Ongoing Investigation
Police highlight that the investigation is still ongoing. While the new charge is related to a previous event, the agency is still reviewing all relevant material.
