A 19-year-old Chicago man is charged with aggravated robbery and attempted armed robbery involving two women on the Sox-35th Red Line platform.
Prosecutors say Curtis Edwards targeted the women at 7 a.m. on June 2 while they were sitting on the platform near Sox Park.
According to prosecutors, Edwards approached the first victim with a weapon concealed in his waistband and demanded her property. He walked away without taking anything from her.
Moments later, Edwards allegedly approached another woman on the station, hinting that he was armed and demanding her belongings. She handed up her beauty bag, but Edwards returned shortly thereafter to steal her cash and iPhone from her handbag, according to authorities. He then fled on a southbound Red Line train.
Last Monday, Chicago police detained Edwards, and prosecutors claim he made “admissions” during an interview with detectives. Judge Shauna Boliker ordered Edwards’ detention awaiting trial.
