An apartment dweller was detained after placing 142 calls to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
Nicholas Webster Taylor, 40, was arrested on a warrant for harassing communication on Tuesday at his Lake Sumter Apartments home on County Road 466 and Cherry Lake Road.
Taylor, who was arrested in 2022 for road rage, called the sheriff’s office’s non-emergency phone on June 2, according to the arrest record. During the calls, he cursed at the call takers and played loud music. A deputy went to Taylor’s residence, but Taylor told the deputy that he is a “citizen,” and thus entitled to make whatever calls he “wants.”
According to the report, Taylor’s 142 phone calls took up the time of sheriff’s office employees who could have assisted other citizens.
Taylor was booked into Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting a $150 bond.
