According to authorities, the victim and the suspects knew each other, and the attack occurred on I-20 in the early morning hours of February 23.

On February 25, the RCSD Fugitive Task Force apprehended Hollomon in Florence County and Burris in Lee County, both without incident. On February 26, Clea was arrested in Lee County without incident.

All three were sent to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, where they await bond hearings.

Smith was discovered shot, and his vehicle was set on fire early Monday on I-20 East near the Clemson Road exit.

Deputies were told just after 2 a.m. that the South Carolina Highway Patrol was responding to a crash on Interstate 20 eastbound between Alpine and Clemson roads.

Around the same time, the RCSD received a report of a car on fire around mile marker 80.

Authorities reported that troopers sought assistance upon discovering indications of Smith’s gunshot wounds.

Deputies came and discovered Smith dead and alone at the location.

The freeway was momentarily closed while investigators and crime scene specialists processed the area.
