A Portland man who snatched thousands of dollars in fragrances from a Corvallis store in a brazen raid has been sentenced to jail.
In December, authorities in Benton County charged Jmaurian Rchane Davis, 40, and his alleged accomplice, Olivia Ann-Lynette Golden, 34, with felony organized retail theft.
Davis first pled not guilty to the felony first-degree stealing allegation. However, on Friday, March 20, he altered his plea to guilty on the organized stealing charge, and the remaining charges were dropped.
Judge Joan Demarest sentenced Davis to two years in jail and required him to pay $7,388 in restitution to Ulta Beauty. The two years run simultaneously with a 13-month sentence he received in Washington County for theft from an Ulta Beauty store in the neighborhood.
Davis and another individual, reportedly Golden, were recorded on camera putting fragrances and scent kits into shopping totes at Ulta Beauty on Northwest Ninth Street one December evening, stealing more than $7,000 in products in approximately 90 seconds.
According to an affidavit, a store manager told police she overheard one of them say, “Here’s all the kits,” as the two brought out black bags and began grabbing products, terrifying customers as they knocked merchandise off the shelf.
The store manager apparently intervened, gathering customers and escorting them away from the unsettling situation.
The burglars left in a black SUV, carrying suitcases full of high-end brand fragrances. According to the complaint, a woman who witnessed the ransacking photographed the license plate on the getaway car, a leased 2025 Toyota Highlander with Washington plates.
Less than 20 minutes later, law officials stopped the SUV near the northbound Knox Butte Road East exit from Interstate 5 in Albany. Davis, the driver, was reportedly dressed in the same attire—head-to-toe Nike swag—as the man caught on tape at Ulta Beauty.
Davis was joined by two women and a toddler in the Highlander. Golden, a lady who reportedly fit the description of the second shoplifter, was detained. The other woman claimed she rented the SUV but denied any illegal involvement.
Inside the Highlander, investigators discovered food totes similar to those used in the theft as well as numerous Nike-brand shoeboxes.
Davis has previous convictions for fraud, theft, assault, interfering with a report, menacing, robbery, providing false information, and escaping police.
Golden has a court hearing planned for April 16. She pled not guilty to the charges and was granted conditional release in January.
