Bunnell man arrested for cocaine after a traffic stop

The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office arrested 44-year-old Troy Mickens on Wednesday after a traffic stop uncovered alleged cocaine possession, the agency said. The Bunnell resident faces several drug-related crimes in Flagler County dating back to 2009.

Mickens was pulled over near Heroes Memorial Park in Palm Coast when detectives from the Problem Area Crime Enforcement (PACE) team reportedly saw his vehicle despite his suspended license. In addition, the state had a seizure tag order on Mickens’ vehicle.

Mickens was hauled over after allegedly committing a traffic violation, and detectives confirmed what they suspected: his license had been suspended. Mickens was claimed to have opened his cell phone during the stop and received a text message reading, “I got 3; what do you need?”

Detectives searched Mickens’ vehicle and discovered a small plastic bag hidden under a cigarette box beneath his driver’s seat, according to reports. The package contained 5.4 grams of a whitish material that tested positive for cocaine. According to the FCSO, the weight and packaging were appropriate for the sale and delivery of illegal substances.

Detectives arrested Mickens for felony possession of cocaine with intent to sell, manufacture, or deliver within 1,000 feet of a park after discovering the text message and package. He was also charged with a misdemeanor for driving with a suspended license.

Mickens has previously been charged in Flagler County with possessing oxycodone with the purpose to sell, aggravated domestic battery, fleeing or eluding an officer, and providing law enforcement with a false name.

“This guy should have thought twice before he drove with a suspended license, especially knowing he had cocaine in the vehicle ready for delivery,” said Flagler Sheriff Rick Staly. “Excellent job by our PACE Unit getting this dirtbag and his poison off the street. He’s been to prison for dealing cocaine before, as well as a multitude of other offenses, but he obviously hasn’t learned his lesson. Time for him to go back for a long time.”
