A man has been apprehended after allegedly jackpotting an Iron Range ATM.
The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office discovered that cash was stolen from an ATM at Mountain Iron Credit Union in early February.
Authorities said the suspect employed a procedure known as jackpotting, which involves installing a device on the ATM that triggers it to disburse all of its money.
Following an investigation, they identified the suspect as a 21-year-old guy.
He was arrested in Austin, Texas, two weeks ago and charged with felony theft.
After analyzing security video of the incident, a deputy discovered that he had actually assisted the suspect a few hours after he took the money when the suspect’s car slid into a ditch.
The deputy wasn’t aware of the theft at the time.
Authorities used information from the incident to help identify the jackpotting suspect, 21-year-old Nixon Ospino-Rodriguez of Denver.
