A Philadelphia man is charged with attempted murder after authorities say he stabbed a gym employee numerous times at a Planet Fitness where he had been banned, leaving the victim battling for his life.
Davier Massey, 28, was detained Thursday immediately after the attack on the gym in Wyncote, Cheltenham Township, according to the local police department.
Around 12:30 p.m., officers responded to reports of a stabbing at Planet Fitness and discovered a male employee with several stab wounds, according to police. He was sent to a trauma facility with life-threatening injuries. There were no quick updates on his current status.
According to investigators, the attack occurred after an incident between the employee and Massey, who was banned from the gym. I cannot believe the news. “I feel like I am in a dream right now,” one gym-goer told FOX29 Philadelphia.
According to one employee, “all the employees are nice” and “uplifting.” “It’s a little shocking for something to happen right here,” he admitted.
According to authorities, Massey was arrested not far from the site and is now facing a slew of crimes, including attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault, terroristic threats, and possession of an instrument of crime.
Authorities stated that bail was rejected, and Massey is being kept at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility for additional court hearings.
Police have not revealed a motive for the attack or provided additional information about what caused the dispute at the gym.
The investigation is underway.
