A woman was arrested on drug charges after her Cadillac was pulled over on State Road 44 near Lake Deaton Boat Ramp.
Around 10 p.m. Thursday, a deputy saw the driver of a black Cadillac Escalade, later identified as 33-year-old Kara Mariah Weller, driving eastbound on State Road 44 with a nonfunctioning passenger-side headlight, according to a Sumter County Sheriff’s Office arrest report. Another deputy spotted it and launched a traffic stop.

Weller offered the officer her driver’s license and vehicle registration, stating that she was the registered owner of the vehicle. A K-9 team arrived on the scene and sniffed around the outside of the vehicle. The K-9 detected the odor of narcotics, so she was requested to step out of the vehicle and stand by while deputies searched it, according to the report.
A plastic grocery bag containing women’s cosmetics and other feminine goods was discovered in the backseat. A further inspection of the package yielded three glass pipes with charred and crystalline residue. The report stated that all of the samples tested positive for methamphetamine.
Weller was later arrested on allegations of possessing methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. She was taken to the Sumter County Detention Center to be held without bond.
