A man is accused of raping a woman after taking her into his home to smoke meth with her.
Angel Jose Vergara, 38, of Wilkes-Barre Township, is charged with rape, burglary, and assault following an alleged confrontation in August 2025.
According to an affidavit, the woman told police that Vergara led her to a Kingston Township house to use meth, put bags on the windows, and then sexually assaulted her after they started smoking.
Police said they discovered and detained the victim with a glass pipe on August 30, 2025, the morning after she was raped. Neighbors reported seeing the victim and Vergara depart their home on Zinn Street, prompting police to respond.
After reporting the alleged assault to police, the victim was taken to the hospital and instructed to complete a sexual assault kit.
The homeowner later told authorities that Vergara was never authorized to enter the residence, which was condemned and had many notices that Vergara said he was going to clean out.
Prior to the assault, a neighbor located Vergara’s vehicle on the premises and alerted authorities that someone was driving away with stuff from the house.
According to the affidavit, the victim had another interview with police on February 20, 2026, during which she stated that she was now clean and described the facts of her 2025 assault. The interview, together with the identification of Vergara’s vehicle on the property previous to the assault, gave authorities with enough evidence to arrest Vergara.
Vergara was arraigned on April 21, 2026. He is currently in Luzerne County Prison, unable to pay the $200,000 bail.
