A Polk County man walked away with a life-changing windfall after winning the $2 million top prize in a recent Florida Lottery drawing. According to state lottery authorities in Tallahassee, Benjamin Hall, a Winter Haven resident, formally claimed the jackpot for the January 16 Jackpot Triple Play drawing this week.
Hall didn’t have to wait long to claim his win, arriving at the lottery offices on January 20. When faced with the decision of how to receive his millions, he chose the instant cash boost of a one-time lump sum payout. After taxes and expenses, the total amounted to a cool $1,212,677.60.
Vaishali, a local shop on 4646 N. Combee Road in Lakeland, sold the winning ticket. While Hall is the main winner, the store also gets excited about selling a ticket that beats the odds.
Jackpot Triple Play is a little different from other games. For a $1 entrance, players receive three sets of numbers per play.
You can select the first six numbers, while the remaining two sets are created automatically as “Quick Picks.” The jackpots begin at $250,000 and can reach $2 million before “rolling down” to increase payments for lower-tier winners.
Since its inception in 2019, the game has served as a crucial driver for both gamers and the state. It has already produced 87 jackpot winners and awarded over $183.3 million in total prizes. More crucially for Florida residents, the game has generated more than $137.4 million for the state’s Educational Enhancement Trust Fund.
With Hall’s massive win in the books, the jackpot has been reset. The next drawing is set for Friday, May 1, at 11:15 p.m. ET, with an estimated $1.3 million up for grabs.
