Extreme heat will grip southwest Tennessee on Monday, with heat indices above 105°F, creating dangerous conditions from 12 to 9 p.m.

The National Weather Service in Memphis has issued a heat advisory for parts of the Mississippi River delta, which includes Memphis, Clarksdale, Forrest City, and Blytheville. Heat index values might exceed 108°F as a result of increased humidity and a stalled cold front.

Residents throughout the region are encouraged to stay indoors during peak afternoon hours, take regular rests in the shade or with air conditioning, and avoid intense activities. Pets and children should never be left unattended in automobiles, and anyone working outside should stay hydrated and wear light-colored clothing.

City services in Memphis and adjacent regions may change outdoor operations, and local hospitals are advising caution due to the increased risk of heat-related sickness. The Monday rise comes after a stretch of cooler June temperatures and is the season’s first major heat event.

The caution remains in effect until 9 p.m. Monday, with additional alerts expected if the heat persists into Tuesday.
