Leesburg Police Confiscated Cash, Cocaine After Pulling Over Mercedes

A Mount Dora man was arrested on drug charges after officers discovered more than five pounds of marijuana and other narcotics in his vehicle.

Officers spotted the driver of a black Mercedes, subsequently identified as 29-year-old Derontay Keshawn Hill, leaving a known narcotics location in Leesburg about 5:30 p.m. Monday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. The tint covering the whole windshield of the vehicle was a blatant infraction, and the tint coating on the front and rear windows appeared to be prohibited.

Due to the infractions, the officers initiated a traffic stop near West Dixie Avenue and McKenzie Street. The vehicle continued to gradually roll before coming to a stop on Park Drive. The officer told Hill of the offense, and he agreed that the windshield tint was illegal, according to the report.

One officer issued a warning, while another utilized his K-9 companion to search the vehicle’s outside. The K-9 positively detected the stench of narcotics, prompting a search of the vehicle, according to the report.

Under the driver’s seat was found a little clear flip-top baggie containing marijuana. On the driver’s side floorboard, a flip phone was discovered. The officers assumed it was used to facilitate drug sales because Hill also had an iPhone, according to the report.

A black Nike bag containing many bundles of money was found on the front passenger floorboard. In the backseat, there were many clear flip-top baggies, which are typically used to package narcotics. According to the allegation, there was also a box with eight “cannabis extract” vape cartridges, each of which contained 100 mg.

Inside the package, there was also a glass jar labeled “Candy Grape” filled with yellow wax. The report stated that the wax weighed 24.3 grams and tested positive for methamphetamine.

Officers discovered a Backwoods cigar package in the vehicle’s trunk, hidden under the driver’s side pillar. According to the report, inside were four baggies of marijuana totaling 21.4 grams, a 7.0-gram baggie of fentanyl, a 4.3-gram baggie of cocaine, and a 4.6-gram baggie of crack cocaine.

The trunk also included a number of vacuum-sealed marijuana bags labeled “White Truffle,” “Side Hoe,” “Lemon Cherry,” and “Unicorn.” They weighed a total of 2,325 grams, or five pounds. According to the investigation, these bags were doubly wrapped, with a separate bag inside the double sealing. This is a frequent method for masking the stench of illegal drugs or opioids, according to the research.

During a subsequent search, Hill was discovered to have $640. The total amount of currency on his person and in the vehicle was $3,375, according to the report.

Hill was charged with trafficking fentanyl (more than 4 grams, less than 14 grams) and marijuana, possessing crack cocaine, cocaine, and marijuana with the intent to sell, and six counts of drug paraphernalia (used in transportation). He was brought to Lake County Jail and held without bond.
