New York Prepares For Shift To Thunderstorms And Showers Beginning Monday After Sunny Weekend

As New Yorkers enjoy a largely sunny day with high temperatures in the 90s across the boroughs, the National Weather Service has issued detailed forecasts indicating a transition to more unsettled weather beginning Monday. Forecasts for Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island predict a mix of thunderstorms and showers throughout the week.

Monday bids farewell to the beautiful skies, with a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 11 a.m., extending into the evening across all five boroughs. Manhattan’s forecast expects temperatures near 92 degrees today, dropping to 76 degrees at night. According to the forecast, Brooklyn will see a high of 89 degrees, a small cooling off from Manhattan’s sizzling.

Those in Queens should be aware of a similar pattern of weather coming up. The detailed prediction shows that after a partly sunny start with a high of around 87 degrees, the risk of precipitation increases, potentially introducing thunderstorms into the mix. The Bronx, like its neighboring boroughs, is expected to have sunny conditions today with temperatures reaching near 92 degrees, according to the forecast, while Staten Island can expect largely sunny weather with a high of 91 degrees. Both boroughs will experience cloudier evenings, with the potential for showers and thunderstorms.

Although there is uncertainty in the middle of the week, Wednesday will offer a brief period of relief with largely sunny skies and high temperatures reaching the upper 80s across the city’s metropolitan area. As the week develops, predictions from Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island show an increased possibility of showers and thunderstorms near the end of the week.

While the near forecast does not predict dangerous weather at the NWS warning level, New Yorkers should be prepared for unexpected shifts. The region’s Hazardous Weather Outlook, which has not yet identified any indicators requiring spotter activation, reinforces this.
