According to D.C. police, officers arrived to the 4600 block of G Street, Southeast, shortly before 8:30 p.m. on July 12.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a man and a woman inside the house. They were both unconscious and not breathing, with gunshot wounds.

D.C. Fire and EMS arrived on the scene, and after all lifesaving measures failed, both individuals were pronounced dead.

According to authorities, the preliminary investigation shows that Cockrell shot Montgomery during a marital quarrel.

Cockrell’s injuries are thought to be self-inflicted.

Homicide investigators are investigating the case, and the cause and manner of death will be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
