179 people detained in El Paso County warrant sweep targeting violent and fraud suspects

El Paso County sheriff’s deputies were out seeking wanted individuals as the sun came up during a multi-agency criminal warrant roundup that resulted in 179 arrests.

The Sheriff’s Office worked with county constables and other law enforcement agencies to conduct a multi-agency warrant roundup from July 28 to August 1.

Those arrested were charged with violent crimes, driving while inebriated, fraud, probation violations, and other offenses.

The Sheriff’s Office had provided a 119-page list of almost 3,000 people with current warrants for a range of offenses, including robbery, domestic violence, and drug possession.

During a self-surrender “amnesty period” the week before the roundup, 50 persons were arrested, clearing a total of 56 warrants, according to sheriff’s spokeswoman Priscilla I. Contreras on Tuesday, August 5.

Last week’s field operations resulted in 129 arrests, clearing 178 warrants, according to Contreras.

The operation resulted in 179 arrests and 234 warrants executed.

The sheriff’s authorities invited individuals on the list with outstanding warrants to “self-surrender” at their convenience, prior to law enforcement’s search for them.

Individuals with outstanding warrants can take advantage of Fast Track Booking, which allows them to be processed, booked, and released from jail in less than an hour.

Before going to jail, the person should know what the warrant is for and how much the bond is, as well as have the money to pay bail or have called a bonding business.

Fast Track Booking is accessible at the Downtown El Paso County Jail, 601 E. Overland Ave. To make a Fast Track Booking appointment, contact 915-273-5143 or 915-273-3762 (option 1).
