Houston police arrested a full-time nurse on Monday after her 1-year-old infant was discovered in an unlocked car while the mother ate inside a restaurant.
Sally Zamora, 29, was charged with child abandonment and granted a personal recognizance bond.
Around 3:55 p.m. on Monday, witnesses alerted law authorities after discovering the vehicle with the doors unlocked and the baby inside at the restaurant off the Northwest Freeway.
According to court documents, Zamora ate inside a Mambo’s Seafood restaurant with her husband and other children while monitoring the infant with a webcam inside the vehicle.
According to the KPRC 2 Weather Team, the temperature reached 97 degrees in Houston on Monday.
According to documents, the engine was running and the air conditioner was on, but the car was not locked.
According to records, Zamora told officers that the toddler had been left alone for over an hour and that she had no idea the car was unlocked.
She also allegedly claimed that she did not personally check on the baby since she was looking at the camera. Alcohol may have played a role in the offense, according to records.
Police report that the small youngster was not wounded.
Zamora has been ordered to participate in and finish a parenting class within 30 days after being granted bond.
According to a representative for HPD, CPS was alerted, and the child was transferred to Zamora’s husband.
