A man from Washington, D.C., was sentenced for a fatal shooting at a gender-reveal party in 2021, according to Department of Justice officials.
Nyjell Outler, 22, has been sentenced to 24 and a half years in prison for the shooting deaths of 21-year-old Demetris Johnson and Daloni Williams in March 2021, according to U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro.
Outler arrived at a gender-reveal party on Madison St., Northeast, on March 20, 2021, with an AK-style rifle known as a “Draco,” according to trial evidence.
Outler then allegedly took the Draco out of his rucksack and approached three young males in the driveway. When Williams approached him with his arm extended, Outler shot him twice at point-blank range.
Outler then shot Johnson in the back as he tried to flee. Johnson died at the site. Williams recovered after undergoing emergency surgery and physical therapy.
Outler was on a GPS monitor at the time of the shooting, having previously been arrested for possessing another Draco.
He fled the scene, disabled his GPS, and remained on the run for 11 months before being apprehended in Florida in February 2022.
In March 2025, a Superior Court jury convicted Outler of voluntary manslaughter while armed in the deadly shot and aggravated assault while armed.
