On August 20, at around 10:59 a.m., patrol officers responded to a grocery store located on King Street in Waldorf for a report of a theft in progress. Store security stated that two suspects stole a shopping cart containing $1,200 worth of laundry detergent, cleaning supplies, personal care goods, steaks, and other items.
When authorities arrived, they saw the male and female suspects enter a white Mercedes ML350 in the parking lot. Officers attempted to stop the driver, later identified as Lonnell Demontae Jennings, 27, of Washington, D.C., but he fled, losing control of the Mercedes and crashing into a wooded area on Poplar Hill Road.
Jennings tried to leave on foot but was shortly captured by cops. He was taken to a hospital and treated for minor injuries before being transferred to the Charles County Detention Center. He has multiple outstanding warrants for theft from different jurisdictions. He was charged with theft under $1,500, disorderly conduct, and other connected offenses.
The female suspect, Khadijah Tufaye Spurlock, 24, of Washington, D.C., was arrested at the scene and transferred to the Charles County Detention Center, where she was charged with theft under $1,500 and disorderly conduct. All of the stolen items were retrieved from the vehicle. On August 20, a district court commissioner discharged Spurlock on personal recognizance. On August 21, a judge ruled that Jennings be held without bond. The investigation is underway.
