DHS: Daylight hammer attack suspect is illegal alien released under Biden policies

A Haitian illegal immigrant apprehended and released by the Biden administration in 2022 was arrested on Friday for reportedly bludgeoning a mother to death with a hammer at a gas station in Fort Myers, Florida, in broad daylight.

Rolbert Joachim, 40, has been charged with second-degree murder and criminal damage to property, according to Lee County Sheriff’s Office documents.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, surveillance footage showed Joachim smashing the woman’s car glass, approaching her, and repeatedly beating her in the head with a hammer, killing her in broad daylight.

The woman, whose identity has yet to be revealed, was reportedly a store clerk at the gas station.

She was also the mother of two teenage daughters, according to a report by Gulf Coast News.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) aided the Fort Myers Police Department in locating and arresting Joachim on Mango Street in Fort Myers.

Joachim first entered the United States in August 2022 and was released by the Biden administration, according to DHS.

Later that year, a federal judge ordered his removal, but he was granted Temporary Protected Status, which will expire in 2024. “This illegal alien barbarically hit this woman in the head multiple times with a hammer,” DHS acting assistant secretary Lauren Bis said in her statement. “The Biden administration released this terrible murderer into the country. Not only did the Biden administration allow him to enter the nation, but they also granted him temporary protected status. Their reckless immigration policy claimed this woman’s life.”

ICE has detained Joachim and will deport him regardless of the case outcome. The arrest of this felon exemplifies how ICE and local officials can collaborate to quickly bring criminals to justice and make our communities safer,” Bis stated.
