Angel Chavez-Heras, 35, of Moundville, Alabama, was sentenced Friday to over 27 years in jail for enticing a minor in Northern Mississippi.
According to court documents, Chavez-Heras solicited explicit content from a 14-year-old victim before traveling over two hours to assault the minor.
According to records, Chavez-Heras solicited sexually explicit images and videos from the minor, who lived in Pontotoc, using numerous online applications.
Agents also discovered that Chavez-Heras had previously engaged in similar activity with other underage victims, and charges in other jurisdictions will be prosecuted independently.
“This sentence is a message to anyone who would think about traveling to the Northern District of Mississippi to prey on children – you will go to prison for a very long time,” said U.S. Attorney Clay Joyner.
Chief Judge Debra Brown sentenced Chavez-Heras to more than 27 years in prison, followed by five years of supervised release.
Following his release, he will be required to register as a sex offender and pay damages to the minor victim.
The investigation began when a worried parent reported an unknown person approaching a child over social media to the Pontotoc Police Department.
“This department will do everything in our power to protect our kids from those who would abuse or exploit them,” said Pontotoc Police Chief Bob Poe.
The Department of Homeland Security and the Pontotoc Police Department performed the inquiry.
