New York native arrested with suspended license on U.S. 301

A man was detained for driving with a suspended license despite claiming to have paid the costs.

An officer spotted a grey Toyota SUV ahead of him on U.S. 301 in Oxford at 9:55 a.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. A check of the tag found that the registered owner, 33-year-old Benjamin Mark Giardini of Orlando, had an active suspension on his license.

The police then halted the vehicle, and Giardini handed over his license. When queried about his suspension, he claimed that he had paid the fines for it. He also offered a citation number, according to the article.

Further inquiry found that Giardini was stopped in Orlando on April 8 and cited for driving with a suspended license without knowledge. The report stated that this occurred under a different citation number.

Giardini was eventually arrested on the accusation of driving with a suspended license. The New York native was taken to the Sumter County Detention Center and freed after posting a $500 bond.
