Convicted Killer Mistakenly Released In Florida And Discovered At Georgia City Council Member’s Home

A convicted murderer who was accidentally freed from a Miami jail has been returned to custody after being discovered in Georgia.

James Daniels, who was convicted of kidnapping, torturing, and killing two men five years ago, was mistakenly released from the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami last week.

U.S. Marshals tracked Daniels down to Reynolds, Georgia, where he was discovered at the house of Timishea Price, a Reynolds City Council member. Price was arrested on felony charges of obstructing the arrest of a criminal and later released on a $5,000 bond. Her involvement is still under scrutiny.

A neighbor, Ruby Wilder, described the scene: “I see all the police trucks and things with the lights on it, and I told my brother, there’s something going on.”

The Florida Department of Corrections reportedly took a full day to alert U.S. Marshals of the incorrect release. According to Reynolds Police Chief Lonnie Holder, the marshals called with Daniels’ location, which led to the arrest at Price’s residence.

Authorities are still investigating how Daniels wound up at the council member’s home, as well as whether anyone helped conceal him.

Taylor County, Georgia is located slightly over two hours south of Metro Atlanta.
