The National Weather Service has issued several Wind Advisories and Freeze Watches for West and North Texas, warning of strong winds and low overnight temperatures from the Big Country to the South Plains and the Permian Basin.
Strong north winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 45 mph will persist through late Tuesday afternoon, hitting locations along and north of Interstate 20—including Abilene, Sweetwater, Snyder, Midland, Lubbock, and Hobbs, NM.
As the cold front moves farther into the state, a Freeze Watch will be issued late Tuesday night through Wednesday morning, with temperatures dipping as low as 25°F in parts of the South Plains and Permian Basin.
Forecasters warn that these circumstances might bring down tiny tree branches, cause isolated power outages, and harm delicate crops or exposed plumbing systems. Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor goods, cover or bring in plants, and wrap exposed pipes before the temperatures drop overnight.
High-profile vehicles may have problems on open routes such as I-20, US 84, and US 87, where crosswinds will be severe until the afternoon.
