The owner of a tax service business, TDK Accounting and Tax Services, was taken into custody for submitting fraudulent documents to the Mississippi Department of Health to obtain funds for her own personal use, according to a press statement from the Mississippi Office of the State Auditor.
Special operatives from the Auditor’s Office apprehended Verneshia Cody.
Cody’s expenses were not included.
According to the auditor’s office, she took and spent sub-grant monies on herself, as well as gained grant funds fraudulently through invoices, expense claims, and counterfeit checks.
Cody faces up to ten years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
State Auditor Shad White commented on the arrest.
“Our investigators worked tirelessly to uncover this scheme,” said White. “We will continue working with prosecutors to hold people accountable and make sure that your tax dollars are spent properly.”
