A Southeast D.C. mother is appealing for the public’s assistance in locating her 12-year-old son, who went missing Sunday morning after leaving the home to walk the family dog.
The last sighting of Demetri Montgomery, who has autism, was near the 5500 block of C Street SE at 7 a.m. His mother, Cynthia Walton, stated that he left to walk the family’s white pit bull, Skyla, but never returned.

“I’ve been looking for him since about seven this morning,” Walton said. “I’ve been driving around, putting out flyers, passing flyers out to people walking down the street to see if anybody’s seen him.”
Community people have joined the search, spending the day canvassing areas and assisting Walton with flier distribution.
Montgomery is characterized as a Black male standing 5’6″ tall and weighing 120 pounds, with a medium brown complexion, black hair, and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a green and gray jacket, black trousers with white stripes on the sides, and dark blue sneakers.
Walton said her son is verbal and approachable. “He’s very, very friendly. He’s very polite,” she said. “He’s not a runaway. He don’t even go outside to play or anything.”
She added that, while the dog is kind, it might be protective of Demetri.
Walton begged anyone who sees her son to contact the police.
She also had a message for her son: “Demetri, if you’re listening, just come home. You not in trouble, you not gonna get yelled at or anything. Just come back home.”
