A man has been arrested over a year after a teenage girl was allegedly assaulted outside her Phoenix home.
Esteban Efren Luna-Campos, 28, was arrested on Tuesday on many felony charges.
On July 29, 2024, a 14-year-old girl was tackled to the ground while walking her dog behind her home near 83rd Avenue and Buckeye Road. According to court filings, the man forced her to the ground and placed his thumb in her mouth to prevent her from yelling.
The man reportedly seized her phone and started groping her chest and between her legs.
The teen was able to get up, but her dog had run away. The man dashed to his bicycle and rode away as the girl hopped the fence into her backyard and shouted for her parents.
She was brought to the hospital with minor injuries sustained while being tackled onto rocks. DNA swabs were also taken from her clothing and other areas of her body.
A partial DNA profile of a man was extracted from her bra. Two fingerprints were also found on her spectacles.
According to papers, on September 23, 2025, a DNA match was found in the system that linked Luna-Campos to the crime. Earlier this month, the woman reportedly identified Luna-Campos as her attacker from a photo lineup.
He was booked into Maricopa County Jail on accusations of kidnapping, child molestation, sexual abuse, and aggravated assault. He’s being jailed under a $50,000 bond.
