New Storm May Dump Up To 5 Inches Of Snow Across These Parts Of The Tristate Region

The National Weather Service has just released projected snowfall forecasts for a new coastal storm that is likely to impact the New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut tristate area, with many areas expecting their first substantial snow of the season.

A coastal low will move over the region on Monday night, December 1, and Tuesday afternoon, December 2, bringing a combination of rain and snow.

The National Weather Service in New York reported on Saturday, Nov. 29, that the heaviest snow totals are expected in the far north of the Lower Hudson Valley and inland Connecticut, while locations closer to the coast would get largely rain.

The latest official forecast predicts 3 to 5 inches of snow across Orange County, Putnam County, and western Passaic County. Middletown and West Milford are among the locations that might receive close to 5 inches.

Most of Connecticut, the rest of New Jersey, and the Lower Hudson Valley might see a few tenths of an inch to two inches.

The higher end of that range is predicted for far inland southwest Connecticut. The National Weather Service stated, “The greatest uncertainty is in this area, with snow transitioning to rain.”

The National Weather Service has provided a summary of the system.

Less than an inch is projected in New York City, White Plains, and Paramus, with the coast and Long Island receiving the most rain.

Snowfall is anticipated early Tuesday, although the amount will be minimal. Additional light snow may fall Tuesday night, primarily in eastern Connecticut.

The National Weather Service stated, “Uncertainty remains regarding the exact track of the coastal low.” In the worst-case scenario, 3 to 5 inches of snow could fall farther south, including coastal Connecticut and New York City, and 6 inches or more across the interior if the storm moves. A warmer track would result in more rain for much of the area.

Travel may be dangerous Tuesday morning, with icy roads and low visibility forecast, particularly north and west of the city. Gusty winds and mild coastal flooding are both probable.
