A former sales manager at a local assisted living facility is facing nearly 50 felony charges after allegedly funding a month-long spending spree with an 89-year-old resident’s debit card.
The Stuart Police Department investigated Crystal Camille Curet, 33, of Vero Beach for financial elder exploitation, leading to her arrest in Orange County. The Orange County Jail is currently holding her on a bond of $1,880,000.
According to investigators, Curet first acquired access to the victim’s financial information while allegedly assisting the senior with Veterans’ benefits.
Detectives learned that fraudulent activity on the victim’s account began shortly after Curet’s termination from the facility. Curet allegedly spent more than $5,000 from the elderly resident’s account over the period of about a month.
An investigation of financial records found a wide range of illicit transactions, including personal bill payments, fast food orders, and 47 unique Amazon purchases.
Based on the information discovered, police obtained a warrant charging Curet with 47 counts of criminal use of personal identification for a victim over 60.
Following the arrest, the Stuart Police Department issued a statement reaffirming its commitment to protecting the community’s elderly population and holding those who target vulnerable residents accountable.
