Although most of the US did not have a white Christmas, the National Weather Service (NWS) has warned that significant snow may fall roughly a day later in four states.
On Thursday, the National Weather Service issued a winter weather warning, predicting significant snow in sections of four northeastern states, including the New York City area.
Obviously, this may make driving difficult for travelers during the holiday season, so the NWS advises them to be particularly cautious.
Snow in Four Different States
On Thursday, famed meteorologist Max Velocity posted a weather map predicting a “bunch of snow” for regions of New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.
“A BUNCH OF SNOW is set to reach New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Connecticut tomorrow! There are 5-10 inches of snow on the table. New York City might get nearly 10 inches of snow!” Max Velocity wrote in the post: X.
The map depicts the most snow in eastern Pennsylvania, southwestern New Jersey, southwestern Connecticut, and southeastern New York, including Manhattan. Massachusetts, Maine, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire are expected to have isolated, light snowfalls.
NWS Issues Warning
As this possibly severe snow rolls in, the National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for New York and Pennsylvania from 4 p.m. Friday to 1 p.m. Saturday.
“Moderate to heavy snow will fall around or shortly after nightfall Friday, and it will remain heavy at times Friday night. Snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour are possible on Friday evening. “The snow gradually tapers off Saturday morning,” the NWS cautioned in its winter storm advisory.
The NWS cautioned that the winter weather could create “hazardous” travel conditions, particularly for people heading to work on Friday.
“Roads, especially bridges and overpasses, are expected to turn slick and hazardous. Travelling could be challenging. “The hazardous conditions may have an impact on the Friday evening commute,” the NWS wrote.
The NWS recommended people to avoid travel if possible, but warned them to plan ahead of time if they must go.
“If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency,” the NWS wrote.
