Sleeping DUI suspect discovered in stranger’s backyard with vehicle’s engine running

A Wildwood woman was arrested for DUI after she drove into a stranger’s backyard, fell asleep, and urinated on herself.

Officers responded to a suspicious car in the 800 block of Barwick Street around 6:15 a.m. on Sunday, according to a Wildwood Police Department arrest report. The complainants reported that at approximately 6:05 a.m., they observed a silver Hyundai passenger vehicle with an occupant, later identified as 22-year-old Tyquashia Ti’Nara Williams, parked on their property with the hazard lights and engine turned on.

The cops saw the vehicle in the south end of the property, near a woodpile. According to the complainants, the vehicle entered through the driveway, traveled between the house and a screened-in pool, and collided with many things. According to the report, the driver’s side fender collided with an air conditioning unit and a pool filtration pump, while the passenger-side fender struck a glass planter.

The truck traveled through the yard, dodging a tree and other structures until coming to a stop in its current location. The investigation stated that Williams sat in the driver’s seat, alone and asleep, with the engine running.

An officer banged on the windshield to catch her attention, and she woke up on the second try. He then approached the driver’s side, opened the door, and directed her to take the keys out of the ignition. According to the report, the vehicle emitted a strong odor of alcohol and urine during the operation.

Williams’ eyes were bloodshot and wet when she spoke with the police. When asked where she was, she first said “Mardi Gras,” then “Cherry Lake.” The report stated that her location was around four to five kilometers from the incident scene.

Williams’ looks prompted an officer to call Sumter County Fire Rescue for a general checkup. While Sumter County EMS was talking to her, she urinated on herself. She also declined medical assistance from the officials on the scene, the investigation found.

Meanwhile, an officer began an accident investigation, gathering information from both Williams and the complainants. The officer assessed the property damage to be $3,500 prior to a professional inspection. According to the investigation, the officer also handed out driver exchange forms for the crash report to others on the scene, as well as Williams’ license and registration.

After returning the documents to their respective owners and discussing the crash report with Williams, the officer informed her that a DUI investigation was underway. Despite reading her rights, she declined to answer questions or participate in field sobriety tests. According to the report, she later submitted breath samples with blood alcohol concentrations of 0.140 and 0.141 percent.

Williams was arrested on a DUI charge and taken to the Sumter County Detention Center. She was released after paying a $1,000 bond.
