Police: 8-time felon fired AK pistol from Lamborghini, then crashed into CPD squad car

A 34-year-old man with eight previous felony convictions has been arrested for a variety of crimes after reportedly firing an AK-style handgun from a red Lamborghini, which he then crashed into a marked Chicago police squad car.

Isai Rivera was arrested early on New Year’s Day after an incident in which surveillance officers monitoring cameras in the Shakespeare (14th) District saw the driver of a red 2021 Lamborghini Urus firing what appeared to be a micro Draco AK pistol from the driver’s window in the 3200 block of West Le Moyne Street, police said.

The surveillance officer followed the Lamborghini to a restaurant parking lot in the 3800 block of West Harrison Street, where patrol officers were alerted. As police arrived, several persons allegedly rushed back to the Lamborghini and sped away, driving west on Harrison Street, a one-way eastbound route, before colliding with a marked CPD squad car, according to the CPD report. The crash injured two officers, according to the report.

Rivera and another occupant fled through the driver’s door, with Rivera allegedly carrying a “rifle-style gun” that he threw beneath a parked car before authorities arrested him.

Rivera was arrested while carrying more than $4,200 in cash and exhibiting indications of intoxication, according to authorities. Officers stated that he smelled of alcohol, had glassy eyes, and “displayed six of six clues” of intoxication during a field sobriety test. He declined a breath test, according to the CPD report.

He faces a slew of accusations, including unauthorized possession of a weapon by a criminal with two or more prior convictions, aggravated flight causing bodily harm, aggravated battery of a peace officer, and DUI.

Judge Antara Rivera ordered his detention awaiting trial.

According to court documents, Rivera has a lengthy criminal past. In 2023, he was sentenced to five years for felon in possession of a handgun and two years for identity theft. In 2017, he received four concurrent three-year sentences for identity theft, three years for burglary, and 42 months for aggravated unauthorized use of a firearm.
