A 36-year-old woman was discovered fatally beaten last Friday in a parking lot in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood on the 6700 block of South Western Avenue.
She was found unresponsive shortly before 11:30 a.m. and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities initially classified the case as a death inquiry.
Autopsy Finds Blunt Force Head Trauma
An autopsy later revealed that she died from blunt force injuries to her skull sustained during an assault, and the case was ruled a homicide by the Cook County medical examiner’s office, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Although officials have listed the victim’s age as 36, they have not yet made her name public.
The Medical Examiner’s Role
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office conducts autopsies and makes formal conclusions about the cause and manner of death in Cook County.
These findings may include toxicological and other laboratory testing that can take several days to complete, depending on the circumstances of the case and the examinations ordered.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Area 1 detectives are investigating the homicide in the 6700 block of South Western Avenue, but no arrests have been made as of yet. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Chicago Police Department or leave an anonymous tip online.
