According to court documents, Vega waived his right to a jury trial and received his sentence in January 2026 at the 351st District Court.

The case stems from an incident in October 2023, when first responders were summoned after Massail and Mirena Vega, twins, were discovered motionless in their cot at a Pasadena house. The twins were pronounced dead on the scene shortly before noon.

Vega informed detectives that he was the last person to see the children alive, at about 5 or 6 a.m. He claimed he left them with his granny.

Authorities eventually stated that the infants died as a result of blunt-force trauma, which included shattered bones and head injuries. An autopsy revealed that the twins had been badly malnourished and dehydrated.

Vega was initially charged with child injury in April 2024, but allegations of capital murder were later added.

Angelina Calderon, the twins’ mother, has been charged with two counts of child injury resulting in serious bodily injury.

According to court documents, Vega was granted credit for 631 days previously served. The court did not order reparations or make a deadly weapon finding. He will spend his term in the Texas prison system.

Mother accused of bond violations

Separate court documents now indicate that Calderon may have violated her release conditions, even as she confronts her own allegations of child injury.

According to a bail violation report issued by Harris County Pretrial Services, Calderon failed to comply with court-ordered GPS monitoring and a 24-hour house arrest curfew. According to the report, Calderon left her designated apartment without authorization many times in December 2025, returning outside of the permitted hours.

The paper states that Calderon had received and acknowledged the bail conditions, which required her to stay at home except for allowed exceptions.

According to court records, the judge requested additional information and ordered Calderon to appear in court. Her next court date is set for March 5, 2026. The bond in this case is posted at $100,000.
