King was identified by store employees and later confirmed by her Maryland driver’s license, according to Cpl. Vincent Pontorno of the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office. According to the complaint, King passed all points of sale without making any attempts to pay.

She has been charged under Maryland Criminal Law §7-104(3) for theft of items worth under $100. The misdemeanor violation carries a potential sentence of 90 days in prison and a $500 fine.

King, who lives on Lookout Drive in Lexington Park, received a summons on May 22 and was properly served on June 3. She waived her right to a preliminary inquiry. A trial is set for July 7 in Courtroom 1 of the St. Mary’s County District Court.

On May 30, the St. Mary’s County Public Defender’s Office filed an appearance in the case, representing King. The matter is still pending.
