Griffith has now been charged with illegally possessing ammunition as a convicted felon under a federal criminal complaint, according to a press statement from the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Ohio.

The charges come from a Jan. 9 incident when law enforcement responded to allegations of someone trespassing in a construction area near the John Glenn Columbus International Airport at approximately 4 a.m.

Griffith was found and arrested. At the moment of his arrest, he was clothed in military fatigue trousers. Body armor with ceramic plates and a ballistic helmet with night vision were also found nearby.

Officers also discovered four firearms, including an AK-style rifle, a shortened shotgun, two handguns, and several rounds of ammunition.

Griffith was convicted of kidnapping in 2011, and as a result, he is not allowed to own firearms or ammunition.

Griffith appeared in federal court in Columbus on January 20 and had his case unsealed at that time.
