A suspect has been arrested after a man walked for hours up the frozen Allegheny River.
At 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Pittsburgh Police officers were dispatched to the 7100 block of Highland Drive in response to reports of trespassing at the former VA site.
When they arrived, the man allegedly fled away. Officers caught up with him on Allegheny River Boulevard. According to police, he defied numerous commands and went onto the ice.
Channel 11 reported seeing the man walking under the Hulton Bridge at 3:30 p.m. in River. Rescue personnel and Pittsburgh medics were dispatched to assist.
According to authorities, the man was brought into custody around 4 p.m. after exiting the ice near the 4600 block of Freeport Road in Harmar Township.
Medics transported him to a hospital in stable condition.
He is anticipated to face charges.
